Global Alliance Worldwide Chauffeured Services operates in the Greater Toronto Area of Southern Ontario, Canada. Although Global Alliance provides services around the world through our network of affiliates, the core of our services are performed in Toronto and its surrounding region. In this continuing feature, we will detail notable locations and communities in the Greater Toronto Area (or GTA) where we often provide limousine service. Today, we will tour the suburb of Richmond Hill.
Officially designated as a town, Richmond Hill counts 185,000 residents, placing it in the top 30 largest municipalities in Canada. It is a part of York Region, and is its third largest community. Located approximately 20 km to the north of downtown Toronto, Richmond Hill is situated west of Markham, east of Vaughan, and south of Aurora. Yonge Street runs through Richmond Hill, connecting it to Toronto’s core. Richmond Hill was known as the fastest-growing municipality in the country during the 1990s, and has an affluent and diverse population today.
Growing from a small rural village to a sprawling, populous suburb like many outlying GTA municipalities, Richmond Hill has large Chinese and East Asian demographic minorities. As its name suggests, it sits at a higher elevation than most of the surrounding GTA and has a varied terrain.
Among its major landmarks are the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts, the large parks of Richmond Green and Mill Pond, and major shopping centres such as Hillcrest Mall. Richmond Hill is home to numerous recreational facilities, public libraries, public swimming pools, and sporting clubs. Richmond Hill is also home to the David Dunlap Observatory, a research facility of the University of Toronto that includes the largest reflecting telescope in Canada (once the largest in the world).
