Explaining Trip Occasions: Hourly Service

Upon reserving chauffeured limousine services with Global Alliance and receiving an email with confirmation of the booking attached, you may notice a field in the Pick Up & Drop Off Information section of the confirmation that is labelled Occasion. Though this may seem to be a minor detail to the client’s eye, the Occasion for each booking is a vital piece of information for reservations specialist to select correctly and to help dispatchers streamline the assignment of chauffeur to specific services.

Clients booking services online on our website are also prompted to enter an Occasion, so some knowledge of the different types of services indicated under Occasion is also important for them to be aware of. This one detail indicates succinctly and precisely the type of service ordered. A previous post detailed occasions related to airport service. Today’s post will cover hourly services and roadshows, while later posts will discuss point-to-point transfers and special occasions.

Livery – Any chauffeured transportation service which includes more than one stop in addition to the pickup and the drop off. Chauffeur and vehicle may follow a pre-set itinerary or may be as directed by passengers; service may begin or end at an airport or include a pickup or drop off at an airport as one of its stops. A livery service is billed on an hourly basis from originally-reserved pickup time until final drop off or release of chauffeur by passengers and/or clients. Hourly minimums on specific vehicle types apply to this type of service.

Roadshow Local – Like liveries, roadshows include more than one stop in addition to the pickup and dropoff and may involve pickups, drop offs or stops at airports. The main point of distinction is that roadshows frequently follow a tightly scheduled pre-set itinerary of meetings. Roadshows are billed on an hourly basis from originally-reserved pickup time until final drop off or release of chauffeur by passengers and/or clients. Hourly minimums on specific vehicle types apply to this type of service. As the occasion title indicates, these particular roadshows take place in the Greater Toronto Area and transportation duties are performed in vehicles owned by Global Alliance by chauffeurs employed by Global Alliance.

Roadshow OOT – This occasion title applies to precisely the same type of service as Roadshow Local does, with the same features of multiple stops, hourly billing, and a pre-scheduled itinerary of meetings. The key difference is that Roadshow OOT (Out of Town) is applied to roadshow services in other cities, performed by chauffeurs and vehicles under the purview of trusted affiliates that represent Global Alliance in their respectives centres.

Shuttle – Shuttle services are generally reserved to ferry passengers from a pickup location to a drop off location in multiple trips, often with a wait and return or a separate return shuttle leg at a later time. Frequently, larger vehicles such as minicoaches, vans or Vanterras are utilized as shuttle vehicles. A shuttle service is billed on an hourly basis from originally-reserved pickup time until final drop off or release of chauffeur by passengers and/or clients. Hourly minimums on specific vehicle types apply to this type of service.

Standby Car  – Standby vehicles most commonly operate without a firm itinerary. Vehicle and chauffeur are “on call” or “on the clock” for a pre-set (but also flexible) period of time, in case transportation services are required from a certain location at a moment’s notice. Standby service is billed on an hourly basis from originally-reserved pickup time until a pre-set end time or release of chauffeur by passengers and/or clients. Hourly minimums on specific vehicle types apply to this type of service. Individual chauffeurs on standby duty are limited to 12 hours of consecutive reserved time.
